In , Yuval Noah Harari, a young historian at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, began to write a book derived from an undergraduate world-history class that he was teaching. Twenty lectures became twenty chapters. Harari, who had previously written about aspects of medieval and early-modern warfare—but whose intellectual appetite, since childhood, had been for all-encompassing accounts of the world—wrote in plain, short sentences that displayed no anxiety about the academic decorum of a study spanning hundreds of thousands of years.
It was a history of everyone, ever. Readers were offered the vertiginous pleasure of acquiring apparent mastery of all human affairs—evolution, agriculture, economics—while watching their personal narratives, even their national narratives, shrink to a point of invisibility. The Agricultural Revolution sped it up about 12, years ago. The Scientific Revolution, which got under way only years ago, may well end history and start something completely different.
He attached the time frame of aeons to the time frame of punditry—of now, and soon. His narrative of flux, of revolution after revolution, ended urgently, and perhaps conveniently, with a cliffhanger. Harari now defines himself as both a historian and a philosopher.

The story of Lale Sokolov is certainly one that needed to be told, to be remembered The cattle train, the starvation, the crematoria and the evil Dr. Mengele; it’s all here, but still, I did not feel the terror in the narration as compared to the many other holocaust novels I’ve read. Memorable debut and work of historical fiction surrounding the lives of Ludwig Eisenberg Sokolov and Gisela Fuhrmannova.

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus is a book written by American author and relationship counselor John Gray , after he had earned degrees in meditation and taken a correspondence course in psychology. The book states that most common relationship problems between men and women are a result of fundamental psychological differences between the sexes, which the author exemplifies by means of its eponymous metaphor: that men and women are from distinct planets —men from Mars and women from Venus —and that each sex is acclimated to its own planet’s society and customs, but not to those of the other.
One example is men’s complaint that if they offer solutions to problems that women bring up in conversation, the women are not necessarily interested in solving those problems, but mainly want to talk about them. The book asserts each sex can be understood in terms of distinct ways they respond to stress and stressful situations. The book has sold more than 15 million copies and, according to a CNN report, it was the “highest ranked work of non-fiction” of the s, spending weeks on the bestseller list.
Gray writes how men and women each monitor the amount of give and take in relationships. If the balance shifts, one person feeling they have given more than they have received, resentment can develop. This is a time when only communication can help to bring the relationship back into balance.
